20th Reunion
Questions
1. How many
people showed up?
Good question.
Some attended the Pool Mixer, but didn't attend the Reunion Dinner,
and vise versa. Not counting the people that attended both
nights twice, we had close to 200 people, total. The Reunion
Dinner itself had around 160. We had a few people show up in other
classes (moslty due to marriages) such as the
Sherman E. Burroughs High School Class of 77
Sherman E. Burroughs High School Class of 81
Sherman E. Burroughs High School Class of 82
Sherman E. Burroughs High School Class of 84
Sherman E. Burroughs High School Class of 85
Unfortunately, there were a lot of people that said they were coming,
and then flaked. Like every reunion, there could have and should
have been many, many more people. Maybe next time we can do better.
Now that we have a permanent website, the "I didn't know about
it" excuse will no longer exist.
2. Was it
fun, did I miss out?
What.......do
you really think I'm going to say that it sucked? Of course not.
Seriously, it was awesome, and you did miss out. The next will even
be better.
3. Am I
a loser for not showing up?
(No, you are
not a loser, but we're going to pretend that you are so that you
show up next time) Yes, unfortunately you are a loser.
4. Did anyone
make it onto the official BOZO List?
Fortunately,
no one made the list. What is the BOZO List, you ask? Go here.
5. I found
out about the reunion at the last minute, and I'm upset that I wasn't
able to attend. Why wasn't I notified sooner?
OK, don't even
get me started on this one. The reunion website was up one year
prior to the reunion. The reunion date was set on the website in
November of 2002, and was also linked on the Burroughs High School
Reunion page. The website entered the search engines in February
2002, so any 1983 BHS
reunion search would list our site. The front office of Burroughs
High School had the reunion info. in November 2002. For those that
were on the email list, many emails were sent. Emails were also
sent via the classmates.com email info. The reunion committee members
rans ads in local papers, posted flyers in businesses, etc. Short
of hiring private investigators, we made our best attempt to get
the word out.
In my humble
opinion, ultimately it's the responsibility of each classmate to
seek out reunion info. in common sense places such as the BHS front
office, old friends, internet searches, etc. I believe in putting
the info. out there for people to find, but I don't believe in searching
down people. I think it's a complete waste of time, and I think
it's rediculous to expect anyone to waste their time doing it. If
you have to hunt someone down for a reunion, then they aren't that
likely to come anyway. We are now in a new era of computers and
the internet, and the days of personally mailed invitations are
completely over (at least for this class). They cost too much to
make and send, take too much time, and many are wasted because of
out-dated addresses.
So now that we have a Burroughs Class of 83 website, we shouldn't
have any more problems with getting the word out. In the next 5
years, hopefully everyone will have heard about it.
6. Who organized
the reunion?
Cathy Ryan,
Rose Garcia, Dan & Cheryl Warren, David Lewis, Saundra Frageman,
& Mike Braithwaite.
7. Was there
a surplus after expenses where paid, and what happens to that money?
Each reunion
there is usually a very small surplus of a $100 bucks or so. I believe
that was the case this time, as well. The money is put into a Class
of 83 savings account to draw interest, and will be used at the
25th Reunion.
8. Where will the Burroughs High School Class of 83 25th Reunion
be held?
It's still a ways away, so nothing has been planned. Some have expressed
interest in having it in another city like Laughlin or Vegas next
time, and some don't like that idea. I will be posting some polls
in the future to find out what the majority of you want. There will
definitely be some smaller informal get-togethers in places like
Las Vegas between now and 2008. Just keep reading the News page
for events that develop.
