Well, I thought I'd let everyone know about how Friday went. Of course, it was homecoming and it was the first Burroughs High School football game I'd been to since showing up to watch my sister in the homecoming court back in 1984. It was a strange feeling to know that every varsity football player and cheerleader weren't even born the last time I attended a Burros football game. Some things have changed, but in many ways it was a complete time warp!

One of the things that HAS changed is that we actaully have a good football team. They have a Canadian coach that's been around a few years or so, and he's been working the pipeline all the way down to the youth football level, and the youth teams are now called "Burros" instead of "Eagles", "Chargers", etc. I hear they even work them on the BHS system so they really know it when they get to high school. So that's going in the right direction. The uniforms are very different.....3 years ago they went to white helmets with a green "B" on them like the old "B" style on our old lettermen jackets. The jersey and pants are now different colors of green. There's now a large "B" logo painted at the 50 yard line which looks really good. Still using the same old dumb white goal posts, though.. LOL!! Even the youth league field now has the correct posts. They now have a cannon set up at the south end of the field and set it off after every BHS score. The cheerleading is much different. They don't yell out cheers anymore via the large round megaphone type things they used to use. And the PC cheerleading cops came along and banned "You Bring the Whiskey, I'll bring the Rye" some years back from what I was told. But other than that, things were pretty cool. The crowd was VERY into everything and it reminded me of the old glory years atmosphere of mid-70's Burroughs football when we always went to the play-offs and usually went far. Of course, in 74 we made it to the CIF 2A finals, and played Neff High School at Victor Valley College. We got smoked something like 42-21. I remember seeing that game as a kid.

Of course, there was a huge crowd. I read somewhere that the place holds around 4,000, and the seats were full, and people were hanging around the sidewalk area towards the north snack bar just like the good old days. We were all surprised that our fellow classmate April Celestine sang the national anthem and she still has a great voice! They announced her as being in the class of 84.....woops. Carol Wood was one of the returning cheerleaders for homecoming, and I didn't even realize it was her at first. And it was really nice to see Dan Stoner!! I hadn't seen Dan in years. He's living in Lancaster with his family and everything is going really well. Dan is still the same cool dude, and he looks almost exactly the same. Unfortunately he couldn't make the 20th reunion, but I'm sure he'll be able to make the 25th.

Anyway, it was a fun time, and worth the trip. Bill Schultz even came over from Bakersfield, and then drove back the same night. Now that's dedication! Good job Bill!!

Another 80 + photos have been added to 20th Reunion Dinner section. Go to the bottom of the page and click on the links to the 2nd and 3rd pages. We now have a total of about 135 pics for the reunion dinner on Saturday night. We'll have more Mixer pics up fairly soon. Coming in the next week or so.....the 'Friends of 83' Guestbook. This guestbook will be for anyone that's not in the Class of 83, but would like to post family pictures, notes, memorabilia, etc. for their friends in the Class of 83.

I just realized that my server host modified my email accounts, and as a result I haven't been receiving any email for the last month from the Mike@bhs1983.com address. If you emailed me, I'm sorry I didn't receive it. Please send me another email if you'd like.

Friday October 17th is Homecoming, and some of us are going to be meeting in the upper section of the bleachers. If you're up for it, come on out and join us! We'll also be meeting somewhere after the game. Wow, this will be the first BHS football game I've been to since 1984.

1983 Graduation Commencement Photos are now up on the Memories page under the BHS link.

Congratulations to Carol Wood for her new teaching position at Burroughs High School as a science teacher. Good job Carol !!!

For those of you that have been wondering what Nick Brophy has been up to, he currently works for Worlds End Producer Management based out of Los Angeles. We didn't have Nick's latest email, so I emailed his company and asked them to let him know about the reunion. I never heard back, and I have no idea if he even received it. He might have still been out of the country in August.

Here's a really cool photo of Nick Brophy working with the Rolling Stones in a Paris recording studio on
6-15-03. From the left, Charlie Watts, Nick, and Ronnie Wood.

The QuickTime Video page is now up, a new Links page has been added, almost finished with a new Google search function, and working on the FAQ page. I promise that I'll get the rest of the Mixer and Reunion photos up in the next few days or so. I'll always add more if you send me some good ones.

Well, the latest news is that there's now a News page! I will also be adding more reunion and mixer pics this weekend. So far I've had several more people send me good photos, so please keep them coming if you have some good ones of people we missed. The Quicktime video's of the 20th reunion dinner should also be up this weekend. The 360 versions didn't turn out so great, so that might not happen.

Everyone had a great time at the reunion, but it was over almost instantly. Rather than waiting another 5 years to see old friends again, some have expressed interest in having some informal gatherings in possible locations such as Las Vegas. And we're talking about something happening in one year or less! Maybe even having an 83 New Years bash in Vegas would be cool. Anyway, if a group of you are planning on meeting somewhere and would like to pass the info. along, please let me know and I'll post it here. I think we all agree that five or ten years is just ridiculously too long.

The following is a list of items I'd like to have added/completed on the site in the near future:

1. Add a 'Friends of 83' guestbook. This will be the place where your friends from other graduating classes can post their family pics, comments, etc. and give you a chance to repsond and interact with them.

2. Add the really cool polling software I recently obtained. There's a bit of a learning curve in getting it to work correctly in web pages, but that's the only hold up. I can post polls regarding what you want for the 25th reunion, and many other things.

3. Finish the Classmates page. Scanning in all those grad pics is time consuming and a pain, so naturally I've put it off for a long time now.

4. Get the Memories page underway with sections for high school, junior high, and elementary school photos, etc. There will eventually be many, many different sections/topics of photo's having to do with anything that we 83'ers experienced while growing up in the valley. The good pics already posted on the guestbook (and future ones) will defintely be included.
